The get a clean, neat edge to your cut shapes you must use a quick and sharp action. The slower the punching action, the more the punch will drag and you will get ragged edges.
The mini (small), medium and large punches are best used by placing the punch on a flat table or bench and pressing down directly on the button. The extra large and super giant punches require the following: 1) Stand up when punching 2) Place the punch on a flat surface according to your height so your elbow is straight when resting the palm of your hand on the punch button. You achieve a sharper and faster action when punching with a straight arm. 3)Try to exert even pressure on the button.
If you suffer with arthritis or hand problems we recommend using the Eezy Punch Press. It was designed by Leone and her son and works by using mechanical cogs. It will take most brands and styles of punches.
Please also note that punches can seize up in very cold temperatures. If your punch keeps sticking or is too stiff to use try warming it up on a sunny window sill or near a heating outlet.
You may also wish to lubricate your punches by either of the following: 1) Fold a piece of waxed lunch wrap paper several times and punch along the edge. This is surprisingly effective. 2) Spray the inside with a DRY silicone spray such as Selley's Ezy Glide. The can comes with a thin tube which connects to the nozzle and reaches inside the punch.
You can also sharpen punches by punching into craft (embossing) foil, a folded wad of kitchen foil or wet and dry sandpaper (320 to 400).
